What's the minimum driver age?

As per our insurance requirements, minimum driver’s age is 25 years.

Can I drive off-road?

Depends. If it’s a gravel road that will lead you to an awesome secluded camp spot – absolutely. If it’s rock crawling or rough terrain – absolutely not. Our vehicles, while iconic for off-roading, are stock and do not handle extreme trails well.

How does insurance work?

There are 2 different types of insurance and all customers are required to purchase insurance.

Standard Insurance: Our rates include Risk Taker Insurance with an excess of NZ$2000.00.

Excess Reduction: The hirer can choose to pay an additional NZ$25.00 per day (to a maximum of fifty (50) days) and reduce the insurance excess to NZ$500.00.

What's your animal policy?

As much as we love animals, we don’t allow them since some of our customers are allergic to them.

What's the security deposit for?

We charge NZ$2000.00 security deposit the day you depart and refund it within 7 days upon your return. The Vehicle is covered by the Insurance however the equipment is not covered by insurance so in the unlikely situation where something breaks or needs repair, we hold the deposit until we sort the incident out with you.

This is our first time camping - Is that ok?

We love beginners! We were all beginners once and remember how intimidating this all seemed. Rest assured, you will feel ready to get on the road after going through the vehicle and gear orientation, which is mandatory when you pick-up the vehicle. To give you peace of mind, you can hire a satellite-based text messenger to get in contact with us – you can always reach us even in the most remote of places with no cell reception.

How far can I drive the vehicle?

We offer unlimited mileage on our hires but keep in mind the Land Rover Defender is not the right choice of car to do a 3000km round trip of the North and South Island in 10 days. There are better rental options from other companies.

Can I get picked up at the airport or my accommodation?

Absolutely – we can arrange pick-up and drop-off to and from Auckland Airport as well as your accommodation in Auckland CBD, for free. Please get in touch if you wish to arrange pick-up and drop-off outside of this locations and we are happy to assist.

Is it possible to rent the vehicle for a one way trip?

Usually we hire from our depot in Auckland and ask you to return the vehicle back to this location. However, please get in touch if you wish to pick-up and drop-off from another location before booking and we will try our best to accommodate your request.
